* We appreciate that these characteristics are difficult to achieve in young children and are likely to develop with time. However, our Academy players should be committed to developing these attributes and their coach will have confirmed that he/she has no concerns in this regard before recommending they join our programme.

To be considered for our Junior Academy, your coach will have identified you meet our initial ‘ACT’ criteria. Please note that, whilst skills and Talent are important, your Attitude and Commitment are the most important attributes.

  • Attitude:

    • You are fair and never cheat.
    • You show respect to your opponents, peers, referees, coaches, supporters and parents.
    • You are always sporting and accept decisions without arguing.
    • You are a team player.

    • You have a strategic mindset.

    • Your coach has confirmed you have passed our initial Skills Assessment.

Programme Benefits:

  • Group coaching/training with other boys/girls of a similar age and standard. Please note that this is not designed to replace the coaching you receive from your individual coach, but compliment it. Indeed, your coach will be involved with the programme to ensure it is suitable for you. Importantly, Berkshire Squash will fully fund this monthly programme.
  • You will be set ‘homework’ to complete between coaching sessions. Assignments are likely to be a combination of skills tests, solo drills, pairs drills, coaching routines, video analysis and research projects. You will have access to the SquashSkills app and a tailor-made programme will be established for you. Again, there will be no charge for this service.
  • We will issue one sponsorship package per annum to the student who demonstrates the best dedication to our ACT principles.
  • If appropriate, you will be considered for county selection. At this point you will also commence a training programme with other selected peers, with the view of playing for Berkshire at the England Squash Inter-County Championships, where you will also be provided with county kit.
